LACEY, Wash. — As the summer-like temps in the Pacific Northwest make trips to rivers and other bodies of water more inviting, Lacey fire crews have a safety warning after making the agency's first swift water rescue of the year. 'When people are not familiar with the river or the temperatures and certainly without life jackets, they pose a lot of risk to themselves and their families,' Lacey Fire Deputy Chief of Operations Jennifer Schmidt stated. Schmidt explained seven people on a raft in the Nisqually River ended up in the cold water just before 8 p.
